Some may think the jumper is in danger. A sense of imminent doom may clutch them. Perhaps they even imagine she is being chased as she jumps into the lake fully clothed.
Last Night Annika Connor
Others may marvel at her reckless abandon and lighthearted playfulness as the wind ruffles her dress, her hair flying freely as she leaps. Excitedly, she plunges into the lake, engendering a sense of freedom.
The interpretation of Last Night is based on the viewer’s perspective. The title Last Night prompts the viewer to wonder, “What happened last night?”
"Bliss of Always" by Annika Connor
In Bliss of Always, the romanticized scene of swans on a lake and a sunset over water appeals to the feminine aesthetic. The title suggests an everlasting sense of serenity. One is reminded of the timelessness associated with the image.
Viewers may recall a moment of remarkable beauty similar to the image of the swan on a lake while examining this painting. Or, perhaps their eyes will hone in on the colors and light reflected off of the water. Applying many layers of thin color glazes resulted in a very detailed water surface in the piece.
“Creating this painting was more challenging then I had initially anticipated. I enjoyed working on the piece but I also spent a long time laboring over colors to use for the water”, Connor mused.
"Flashes of Hope" by Annika Connor
Of the three paintings shown, Flashes of Hope is the most abstract of all. The water is a mirror to the sky. This image portrays a daydream. The colors are too unrealistic for the scene to be considered real.
Mystery makes this painting feel more like a fantasy world than reality. The scene is illusive. Flashes of Hope conjures images of castles in the sky, knights that slay dragons and the fantastic world of hope that accompanies them.
