Fountains, a photo essay

How many of you are fascinated and somewhat hypnotized by the sound of running water that alleviates your mind and help you forget your worries. Water has a therapeutic quality; its liquid nature seems to tranquilize our minds. The soothing sound of the ocean has a unique quality that seems to have an overall appeal on all human beings. Often in the chaos of frenetic cities where traffic and the sound of construction workers is the daily soundtrack to our lives, having a small oasis of peace and tranquility becomes mandatory. All over the world, in cities like Rome, Paris or Berlin fountains contribute to add an element of elegance and often become a centre point of gathering for tourists and local citizens. This piece of architecture began to be serve decorative purposes back in ancient Rome where fountains where much in vogue especially in gardens.  Today, most fountains are ornamental, while some are practical since they still provide drinkable water. This photo essay takes you on a little trip and presents you the beauty and uniqueness of some wonderful fountains.
